I don’t know about you, but I have only eaten broccolini a handful of times. In fact most of the time my local grocery stores don’t carry it. This summer though I have seen it pop up in my local Wal-Mart so I thought I would buy it and see if I prefer it to regular broccoli. The verdict is in…I like it better than regular broccoli! It can be pricy so I wait until it is discounted a few days before it expires.
This is a quick and easy recipe that makes a great side dish. I usually enjoy it as a side to steak, pork chops or chicken breast. Add it into your rotation to spice up those weeknight meals! Do you like broccolini or are you more of a broccoli fan?

Garlic & Lemon Broccolini
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp lard Pork or duck lard
- 1 package broccolini
- 1 tsp sea salt divided
- 1 tbsp lemon juice fresh squeezed
- 2 cloves garlic minced
Instructions
-
Wash and trim broccolini. Cut off any leaves and trim an inch off the ends.
-
In a sauce pan, bring water to a boil. Add 1/2 tsp of sea salt and blanch the broccolini for 2 minutes. Remove broccolini and put in a bowl of cold water.
-
Using the same sauce pan, pour the water down the drain. Melt the 2 tbsp of lard over medium heat. Once melted, add in the minced garlic. Cook for 2 minutes.
-
Add in the lemon juice and stir. Drain the broccolini and add it to the pan with 1/2 tsp of sea salt. Stir to coat. Serve immediately.
Recipe Notes
You want the broccolini to be somewhat firm rather than too tender. Don’t blanch them for longer than 2 minutes and add them to cold water to prevent further cooking.
