I truly believe you can never have too many smoothie recipes in your arsenal. I have my favourites of course but every now and again it’s nice to switch it up and try something different. When The Paleo Mom aka Dr. Sarah Ballantyne partnered up with Vital Proteins to make an AIP friendly Collagen Veggie Blend I was a little more than excited. (Collagen Veggie Blend has unfortunately been discontinued. This Autoimmune H&N Banana Vanilla Protein Powder is another favorite of mine that works great in this recipe!)
If you have been following AIP for any length of time then you know there basically isn’t an AIP friendly protein powder out there. Enter- Vital Proteins Collagen Veggie Blend (Vital Veggies). Long story short, I needed a new recipe to go with my new veggie blend and so this Chocolate Banana Smoothie was born.
Vital Proteins Collagen Veggie Blend has 3 servings of organic vegetables, 1 serving of organic fruit, and 20g of collagen peptides. If you have never heard of collagen before it is basically a super hero in the AIP world because of it’s ability to help heal your leaky gut. It can also help your hair and nails grow longer too.

Wow talk about a clean ingredient list! It retails here for $79 US which may sound pricy but high quality good usually is. I bought mine back in April and I still have lots left. Eating healthy on the go can be difficult and this takes the guess work out of it. If you travel a lot or don’t always have access to fresh foods then this product is for you. I took some on my trip to Italy and drank it with water in the airport. This is also great for a quick breakfast or a pick me up in the afternoon. The next time your mother says, “eat your veggies,” you can simply show her this smoothie.

Chocolate Banana Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup coconut milk
- 1/2 Cup Chopped frozen strawberries
- 1/2 Cup Chopped frozen banana
- 2 Scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Veggie Blend or collagen
- 3 Small dates pitted
- 1 Tbsp Coconut manna (butter)
- 1 Tsp cinnamon
- 1 Splash water
- 1 Tbsp roasted carob powder
- 1 Tbsp Coconut for garnish
Instructions

Place all of the ingredients into the blender. Blend on high until fully incorporated. Add more water if needed to help blend and reach desired consistency.

Pour into a glass and top with coconut if desired. Can be eaten with a spoon or a straw.

Feel free to switch out the strawberries for blueberries or raspberries!
