Rooibos
Rooibos is an aromatic tea made from the Aspalathus linearis tree. Rooibos tea is the national drink of South Africa, where this tree grows. Source
Studies suggest that rooibos is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulator, antispasmodic, as well as a liver and brain protectant! Source

Dandelion
Dandelion tea is obtained from the leaves and/or root of the dandelion plant. It is a flowering and herbaceous perennial flowering plant. Source
This medicinal tea that is used as a coffee alternative in the AIP community has health benefits, too! Pour a cup of dandelion to help with liver support, gallbladder function, detoxification, and constipation. Source

Honeybush
If you’re craving a good southern-style glass of sweet iced tea, but you’re avoiding excess sugars on the AIP (since we are recommended to keep it under 20 grams per day to reap the anti-inflammatory benefits of the protocol) – you’re in luck. Honeybush is a delightfully and naturally sweet leaf that is free of caffeine and added sugar but rich in flavors!
Honeybush has been known to help calm coughs since it contains a natural form of expectorant – which may help you to clear your throat! Source
HOW TO MAKE IT
I love to brew this as a sun-tea in the warmer weather months, but in the winter, you can easily brew 1 bag of organic honeybush tea with 1 cup of hot filtered water in a mug or heat-safe measuring cup with a spout.
Steep it for 10 minutes, then squeeze the excess water from the bag into the mug or cup. Enjoy hot as-is, or allow to cool to room temperature before serving over ice. (Sipping on the front porch in slippers is optional – but highly recommended.)
Chamomile
Having a difficult time unwinding after work or before bedtime? Chamomile can come to the rescue! It’s delicious when paired with a splash of freshly-squeezed orange juice (in my opinion) to balance out it’s earthy flavors and add a hint of sweetness and vitamin C.
Chamomile is known to help with insomnia and blood sugar and is rich in antioxidants. Source
HOW TO MAKE IT
Brew 1 bag of organic chamomile-ginger tea with 1 cup of hot filtered water in a mug or heat-safe measuring cup with a spout.
Steep for 5 to 15 minutes (depending on how strong and medicinal you would like it), then squeeze the excess water from the bag into the mug or cup. Enjoy hot with the juice of ½ an orange added as-is, or allow to cool to room temperature before serving over ice with the orange juice.
Ginger
I saved one of the most simple but oh so delicious teas for last on my list of 5 Paleo AIP Caffeine-Free Teas – but it’s definitely not least!
HOW TO MAKE SIMPLE GINGER TEA
To help with nausea or stomach upset, I love to slice 1 to 2 inches of fresh ginger. Then simmer them on the stovetop in 1 to 2 cups filtered water in a small pot until it’s spicy and zingy! (About 15 minutes.) Sip away and let it warm you from head to toe while easing digestive distress*. *Source
